Are you looking to obtain a concealed carry permit in Florida? Whether you’re a firearm enthusiast or considering self-protection for the first time, navigating this process can seem tedious. In this guide, Out of Style Firearms will walk you through obtaining a concealed carry permit in the Sunshine State. We aim to empower you with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions about your safety and rights. Out of Style Firearms, a trusted resource for firearm knowledge, urges you to begin this journey by understanding the requirements and process of earning your concealed carry permit. While no longer necessary to carry a firearm in Florida, a concealed carry permit is still advantageous as it allows for the legal concealed carry of a firearm in any other state that honors Florida permits. Florida law requires the applicant to bring proof of firearm competency from a valid organization to obtain a concealed carry permit. These approved organizations include:
- Any safety course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
- Any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course
- Any firearm safety or training course offered to the general public using certified instructors from the National Rifle Association, the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, or the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (That’s Us!)
Once you have passed one of the approved courses from a valid source, it will be time to schedule your appointment. This appointment can be made at a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) regional office or a Tax Collector’s Office. Before heading to your appointment, be sure you have all the required materials, including:
- A picture ID
- A copy of the training certificate from one of the approved organizations that shows proficiency in firearm safety and training
- A form of payment- keep in mind that regional offices do not accept cash for a Concealed Carry Permit
At the appointment, you will be directed to a computer to fill out the online application. Once the form is completed, your fingerprints and photograph will be taken to document the completion of the process. This information will be sent to Tallahassee for processing, where FDCAS will have 90 days to either issue or deny the application.
